How to: Roll Back a Sync

Modified on Fri, 12 Jun at 4:50 PM

Overview

When to roll back and which method to use.

Rolling back a media plan sync restores a previous version of campaign data in Advvy. It is used when a sync was performed incorrectly, caused issues, or needs to be reverted to a validated earlier version. Both rollback methods fully replace the current campaign data.

When Should You Roll Back?
Use a rollback when
  • Incorrect data was synced
  • A sync caused validation issues
  • The sync was run against the wrong campaign
  • You need to revert to a previously validated version
  • Changes caused reporting discrepancies
Advvy provides two methods
  • Method 1 — Re-sync an older Excel file
  • Method 2 — Reload a previous Import Job

Both methods overwrite all current flighting and fee data.

Rolling back overwrites all current campaign plan data. There is no partial rollback. The entire set of Campaign Flightings and Fee Flightings will be replaced. Ensure you are rolling back to the correct version before proceeding.

Which Method Should You Use?

Choose based on what you have available.

Method 1
Re-Sync an Older Excel File
Best when you have a clean, validated Excel media plan file available. You'll use the Advvy Add-in to connect and re-sync the older version.
Method 2 — Fastest
Reload a Previous Import Job
Best when you don't have the older Excel file. Advvy keeps a history of all syncs — reload any prior Import Job directly from the platform.

Method 1: Re-Sync an Older Media Plan

Restore campaign data by syncing a previous version of the Excel media plan through the Advvy Add-in.

Method 1 · Excel Add-in
Re-Sync an Older Excel File
Open the older Excel version and sync it back to the campaign using the Advvy Add-in. Advvy will overwrite the current data with the older file's contents.
1
Open the older media plan in Excel

Locate and open the version of the Excel media plan you want to restore.

2
Connect the Advvy Add-in

Open the Advvy Add-in from the Excel ribbon and connect it to the correct Advvy environment.

3
Connect to the correct Campaign

In the Add-in, select the Campaign you want to restore data for. Ensure this matches the campaign the older file was originally synced to.

4
Select Sync Media Plan

Click Sync in the Add-in. Advvy will overwrite the current campaign data with the contents of the older Excel file. A new Campaign Import Job will be created to record this sync.

What Happens
  • Advvy overwrites all current Campaign Flightings and Fee Flightings
  • Media and fee data reflect the contents of the older Excel file
  • A new Campaign Import Job is logged for this sync
  • Campaign Plan+ and Media Summary update automatically
Tip: Use clear version naming in your Excel files (e.g. Campaign_Plan_v3_APPROVED.xlsx) so you can quickly find the right version to re-sync.

Method 2: Reload a Previous Import Job

Restore campaign data directly from the platform without needing the original Excel file.

Method 2 · Fastest · No Excel Required
Reload a Previous Import Job
Advvy stores a history of every media plan sync. Open any previous Import Job and click Reload to instantly restore that version of campaign data.
1
Open the Campaign in Advvy

Navigate to Campaigns and open the Campaign you want to restore.

2
Go to Campaign Import Jobs

Select the Campaign Import Jobs tab on the Campaign record. This shows the full history of all syncs run against this campaign

3
Open the Import Job you want to restore

Click the Import Job that corresponds to the version of the campaign you want to restore. Check the date and plan version to confirm it's the right one.

4
Click Reload Sync

Select Reload Sync from the ribbon at the top of the Import Job record. Advvy will restore the campaign data exactly as it existed at the time of that sync.

What Happens
  • All current Campaign Flightings and Fee Flightings are replaced
  • No changes are required in Excel
  • Campaign Plan+ and Media Summary update automatically
  • The Reload Sync action is logged for auditing purposes
Tip: Reloading is the fastest way to undo an incorrect sync. No Excel file is needed — Advvy already has the data stored in the Import Job.

After the Rollback — Validate the Data

Always confirm the campaign data is correct after a rollback.

CheckWhere to Validate
Campaign flightings restored correctlyCampaign Plan+ — review the Gantt view for expected activity
Fee data matches prior versionCampaign Fee Flightings tab — confirm fee allocations
Media Summary totals updatedMedia Summary tab — check Gross, Net, and Fees totals
Import Job logged correctlyCampaign Import Jobs tab — confirm new or reload job shows Success
⚠️
Reloading does not merge data. It is a full snapshot restore. Any changes made to the campaign after the original sync will be lost when you reload a prior Import Job.

Key Takeaways

1
Advvy provides two rollback methods. Re-sync an older Excel file or reload a previous Campaign Import Job — both fully restore an earlier version of campaign data.
2
Reload Sync is the fastest option. No Excel file needed — open the Import Job you want to restore and click Reload Sync from the ribbon.
3
Both methods overwrite all current data. There is no partial rollback. Campaign Flightings and Fee Flightings are fully replaced.
4
Always validate after rollback. Check Campaign Plan+, Media Summary, and the Fee Flightings tab to confirm the restored data is correct.
5
Every rollback is logged. The Reload action is recorded in Campaign Import Jobs for audit and compliance purposes.
