Overview
The key principle: teams work independently at the Child level; leadership views consolidated data at the Parent level.
Child Campaign
Where work happens
Media plans are synced, MBAs are generated, and day-to-day operational changes are made at the Child level. Each child is independent.
Parent Campaign
Where reporting happens
The Parent aggregates data from all linked children automatically. Useful for stakeholder reporting, budget oversight, and consolidated analysis.
Day-to-Day Management
How to manage Parent and Child Campaigns during the campaign lifecycle.
Editing Campaigns
| Action | Parent Campaign | Child Campaign |
|---|
| Edit campaign details (dates, name, etc.) | Edited independently — may cascade depending on system settings | Edited independently — does not auto-update the parent |
| Sync a media plan | Not supported | ✓ Always sync here |
| Generate an MBA | Not recommended | ✓ Standard workflow |
| View roll-up totals | Media Summary + Campaign Plan+ show consolidated totals | Shows individual campaign totals only |
Managing Child Campaign Relationships from the Parent
- Open the Child Campaigns tab on the Parent record to view all linked children
- Click directly into individual Child Campaign records from this tab
- Add or remove Child Campaigns at any time
ℹ️When a Child Campaign is removed (by clearing its Parent Campaign field), it is immediately excluded from Parent roll-ups and reporting. The child remains available as a standalone campaign.
⚠️Do not sync media plans directly to the Parent Campaign. Any updates to Child Campaign media plans are automatically reflected in Parent roll-ups — no manual action required at the Parent level.
Roll-Up Functionality
What data rolls up automatically from Children to the Parent Campaign.
Once campaigns are linked, Advvy automatically aggregates the following from all Child Campaigns:
Media Activity & Spend
All booked media and spend data
Fees & Charges
Fee flighting totals across all children
Media Summary Totals
Combined budget vs actuals
Flighting & Schedule Data
Timeline view of all child activity
Campaign Plan+ — Roll-Up View
When viewing Campaign Plan+ on the Parent Campaign:
- Activity from all linked Child Campaigns is displayed together in a single view
- Filters can be applied to isolate specific markets, channels, phases, or products
- Data is read-only at the Parent level — edits are made on Child records
Campaign Plan+ on the Parent is ideal for high-level analysis and validation. For operational changes, navigate to the relevant Child Campaign record.
Media Summary — Roll-Up View
The Media Summary tab on the Parent Campaign provides:
- Consolidated spend and fee totals across all children
- Budget vs actuals for the entire initiative
- A quick snapshot of overall campaign performance
Reporting and Analysis
What you can see and do from the Parent Campaign for reporting purposes.
| What You Can Do at Parent Level | How |
|---|
| View consolidated reporting for the full initiative | Open the Parent Campaign → Media Summary or Campaign Plan+ tabs |
| Drill down into individual Child Campaign detail | Open the Child Campaigns tab → click the relevant child record |
| Filter by market, channel, phase, or product | Apply filters within Campaign Plan+ on the Parent record |
| Compare Child Campaign performance | View Media Summary on the Parent for side-by-side totals |
Common Reporting Scenarios
→
Multi-market budget and performance tracking — View combined spend across all markets from the Parent; drill into each Child for market-level detail.
→
Phase-based reporting — Track launch vs sustain vs burst periods across separate Child Campaigns with a single consolidated view.
→
Channel-level roll-ups — Combine TV, Digital, and OOH children under one Parent to see total initiative performance.
→
Portfolio-level reporting — Ideal for reporting to client stakeholders who need totals across products or regions without access to individual campaign details.
Best Practices
Recommendations for managing Parent and Child Campaigns effectively.
Use Parent for stakeholder reporting
Share Parent Campaign views with clients or leadership for consolidated oversight without exposing individual child-level operational data.
Use Children for operations
All planning, syncing, and MBA generation happens at the Child Campaign level. Keep operational work separate from the reporting layer.
Validate after significant changes
After major Child Campaign updates (re-syncs, large plan changes), review the Parent Media Summary to confirm roll-ups have updated as expected.
Maintain clear naming conventions
Use consistent naming patterns across children, e.g. "Campaign Name – AU", "Campaign Name – NZ", to make roll-up data easier to interpret.
Key Takeaways
1
Day-to-day work happens at the Child Campaign level. Media plans, MBAs, and operational edits are all managed on the child record.
2
The Parent Campaign is the reporting layer. Campaign Plan+ and Media Summary on the Parent show consolidated, read-only data from all children.
3
Roll-up is automatic — no manual action required. Changes to Child Campaigns update the Parent's roll-up data automatically.
4
Remove a child at any time without losing its data. The child becomes a standalone campaign and is excluded from Parent roll-ups immediately.
5
Validate roll-up data after significant changes to Child Campaigns. Always confirm the Parent Media Summary reflects the expected totals before sending stakeholder reports.
